They're sad little critters, huh?
Bertrand Russell: There is something feeble and a little contemptible about a man who cannot face the perils of life without the help of comfortable myths.
Almost inevitably some part of him is aware that they are myths and that he believes them only because they are comforting.
But he dares not face this thought!
Moreover, since he is aware, however dimly, that his opinions are not rational, he becomes furious when they are disputed.
I hope I don't sound condescending when I say this, but, I believe that belief and faith are a gift given to all, but, given in God's good time.
Why some have it and have it so much stronger than others, I don't know. But, even though I do believe and love my God, I know there are people who have a much stronger faith than I do at this time in my own life.
I know what I do have has been increased and strengthened. Maybe I, too have had blinders on when it comes to certain things. But, I do know and even understand this new nature your poster speaks about. And, I sincerely believe YOU will know it yourself some day. But, after all, it is hard to explain to one who has no belief at all at this time in THEIR own lives.
Please... forgive me If I am.
That's exactly what puts me off about the idea of heaven. Surrounded by smug ...for eternity.
For a second, I thought it was you saying that, and I was going to report your question.
Some people are just like that. There's Atheists like that too. You'll find conceited morons among all groups.
A true christian is loving, humble and kind-hearted. Any person who does not uphold these characteristics are not truly christians. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh.
'some'? try all.
When you challenge them they get defensive and rude, hoping you will leave them alone, cos they know they have no real argument to back them up.
It's tiresome, I just don't bother any more, they want to waste their lives looking forward to death it's no business of mine.
F*ck evidence. You just gotta believe. Just believe or go to Hell. That simple.
"That's exactly what puts me off about the idea of heaven. Surrounded by smug ...for eternity."
So you'd rather be surrounded by fire and torture than smug? How strange.
