# Help! Saw this question on an I.Q. test: If it takes 5 machines 5 minutes to make 5 widgets -?

How long will it take 100 machines to make 100 widgets? I don't think I got the answer right. Could you help? Thanks!

Unit analysis might clear some things up

5 machines/(5*5 widget - minute)

(5 widget-minute/machine)*(100 machines/100 widgets) = 5 minutes

If 5 machines takes 5 minutes to make 5 widgets

then 100 machines will take 20 least times than 5 machines to make 5 widgets => 5 minutes x 1/20 =1/4 minute.

If 100 machines takes 1/4 minute to make 5 widgets then 100 machines will take 20 more time x 1/4 minute or 5 minutes to make 100 widgets.

It would take 5 minutes because if they say it takes 5 machines 5 minutes to make 5 widgets its really like they are saying it takes 1 machine 5 minutes to make 1 widget. If 100 machines are all working at the same time it takes still only 5 minutes. I love these puzzles =D
