Question

How to factor these 2 equations?

5xy – 40x – 15y + 120

a. 2

b. y – 8

c. x – 4

d. x + 6

6x2+ 2x – 21

a. 4x – 3

b. 2x + 7

c. 6x – 3

d. None of the above

Answer

The first answer to the first problem is B (y - 8)

Because:

5xy - 40x - 15y + 120

(5xy - 40x) - (15y + 120)

5x (y - 8) - 15 ( y- 8)

(5x - 15) (y - 8)

And the second one is D NONE OF THE ABOVE

None of those choices even make sense.

# 1

(5xy -40x) + (-15y + 120)

= 5x(y - 8) + -15(y - 8)

= (5x - 15)(y - 8)

= 5(x -3)(y - 8) so, y - 8 => b. (answer)

#2

6x^2 +2x - 21 => d. (answer)
