Question

Two Physics questions. Please help?

I have two questions. Here they are:

Place a small drop of water on wax paper. Describe how the water behaves; what characteristic of water are you investigating?

Take a glass of water and see if you can float a paper clip or pin on it. What characteristic of water are you investigating?

Please help me on these. Not only do I not know what the questions are referring to when they say "characteristics of water", but I do not have access to any of these materials to do the experiments. I do have ideas of what would happen however.

Answer

as per first question: there is adhesive force acting between the two. as a result of this, liquid does not wets the wax paper and also, the angle of contact is obtuse

and

in the second question it is surface tension.

The characteristic you're investigating by floating a paperclip is cohesion.

Here it is, just a few hours before school, and I haven't finished my homework! :X Please help me by answering these few questions that I am entirely too lazy to look for myself, and I will offer you nothing as compensation in return!

Sincerely yours,
