What is a good job/career for someone who's psychotic?
I'm 16 and diagnosed psychotic (most likely paranoid schizophrenic). I have really good grades but I'm struggling to do work--somehow I'm still keeping my marks up. I had dreams of becoming a doctor but I don't think that I could handle that much schooling. I'm into drama and sciences, and I'm not sure where to go, or rather where I can go, with my career. I'm okay now, but I have a feeling that there will come a time when I stop taking my meds because of the side effects. I don't think I'm going to be able to handle a completely normal career, but at the same time, I don't want to be a parasite for the rest of my life. I need some ideas on what kind of career to pursue that will keep me busy, but not stress me out--I have a lot of trouble with stress, can't handle it. My main issues now are my negative symptoms, like problems with memory and focus. Your help is greatly appreciated.
I have an anxiety disorder, and it's different from psychosis but i know what it's like to define yourself by mental health - you're doing that as well. Stop.
Do what you want to do, be what you want to be, handle the symptoms when they happen - take medication, there's enough of it out there for whatever you have. Don't let mental health determine your path. Don't be the person that says "i never did it because.. " "I'm not who i want to be because.."
Be the person that says "I did it in spite of.." "I'm who i want to be regardless of.."
