Question

Does an enema soften stool, or force it out painfully?

I have been "stopped up" for 3 days now and it hurts to go. I've been taking stool softeners, drinking prune juice and miralax and drinking lots of water. My doctor suggested an enema. I'm going to try a Fleet enema, but I want to know from anyone who has used one if it softens at all. I'm scared that it will be painful and force me to go. Please help!

Answers

I haven't had one but have given plenty.

Fleet Enema is a saline laxative enema. It works by pulling water from the body into the bowel, which helps to soften the stool and cause a bowel movement.

Just relax, you will be fine. Don't be scared and tighten up.

Use a nice 2 quart warm water enema and it will soften it up for you. No more pain.
