Question

What year did France become a country?

My sister needs help on her history project and she has to answer these questions:

1. What year did France become a country?

2. What was on the land (France) before it became an official country?

If you have any answers, that would be great! Thanks!

Before it was a country, it was a Kingdom, and way back, that Kingdom was part of the Holy Roman Empire which included most of north and central Europe, and further back, it was "Gaul" -- part of the Roman Empire.

In recent centuries before France became a country, it was a substantial Kingdom. Then there was a revolution, in the 1780's and the King was executed and the holocaust against the nobility and old establishment made way for France to become a Republic, ie- a nation state, ie - a country.
