Question

How would I go about restoring my laptop?

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NW265F laptop.

I'll be getting a new Macbook Pro and I'm passing this one down to my mom.

10 points for the best answer! Thanks.

First make sure that you've backed up any important data from My Documents, the desktop and from any other drives/partitions.

Then, restart the laptop and hold down the Alt and F10 keys together. This will start the factory restore process. It's very simple. You don't need a restore disk for this method.

Hope that helps.

If you have that install disk for Windows just install windows making sure to format the hard drive in the process. Before you reinstall make sure that you have the right licence key, use SIW http://www.gtopala.com/ to find your licensee key, on the left side, there is an option called licenses" it will scan and tell you all liscence keys for software on your computer. (sorry about the spelling)

did it come with a restore/windows disk. if it didnt then u can only just erase everything on it manually(right click>delete) if u do not have a restore disk or a windows disk which re installs the operating system so the computers files are all new and like they were when you first got it. if u do have the disk just keep on going and clicking yes. do a quick format as ur mom isnt gonna hack the computer to find out ur credit card and then re install the operating system. oh and for the new macbook pro's a 15" or 17" is best as they have automated gpu switching and way better cpus then the 13" that basically didnt have much change except battery and minor stuff
