Question

Is 'populace' singular or plural?

Thanks~

Answers

It is what is known as a 'collective' noun, so grammatically it is used as a singular noun (i.e. The populace of Egypt is made up of Muslims and Christians).

It's confusing, because you think it should be plural, but it's not.
