Question

What should I charge for babysitting 2 kids?

My uncle has asked me to watch his 4 year old and his 9 year old for 6 days in a row. I will need to stay over at his house for 5 days, and while there, I will need to look after the 2 kids and his dog, as well as cook, clean, and occasionally watch the neighbor's child, too. The kids are sometimes a handful, but they are used to me, so I am not so worried. Also, he will be returning, but he is gone 10 hours a day. Since he is a relative, I don't want to rip off my uncle, but I also don't want to sell myself short. What should I charge?

Answers

Usually, an hour of babysitting is around $6-$10. Since it's 2 kids, pets, and cleaning in all for you, you should charge around $12 an hour or more like $16. It's a lot of work, you should deserve your pay.

My sister had personal experience with babysitting the neighbors' kids. Even though they arn't relatives, they are still part of the campbell family...Anyway, here are some possiblilities:

- Charge your babysitting per day, i.e. 8 dollars a day.

- If he asks you how much he should pay you, ask him back. Since he's your uncle, I'm sure he'll reward you with a fair amount.

- If possible, talk with him about your dilema. Then you can both negotiate a fair profit that's ok with him as well as you.

I hope this helps. Good luck. :)
